In a rare example of an ousted chief executive claiming discrimination, the former head of Tuesday Morning Corp. filed a complaint alleging the home furnishings closeout retailer fired her because she developed breast cancer.
Kathleen Mason was dismissed in early June after a 12-year run as CEO that saw the company’s stock fall nearly 60%. An activist investor, Becker Drapkin Management LP, was then agitating for the board to replace her, and the company said the day she was fired that its full-year sales and profit would be worse than expected.
